What are Scottish Highland Games? There is an excellent description on this page.

In early peaceful times, Clan Chiefs gathered the men of the clan to practice and test skills essential in battle, because it was these ordinary people and not paid soldiers who fought for their territory–and, at times for Scotland–in times of war.

“Wapenschaws” (weapon shows) were held in both the Higlands and the Lowlands to check weapons. At these gatherings, feats of athletic prowess were performed, including foot races, tossing the caber and putting the stone.

We’re no longer throwing to practice for warfare and it’s no longer just the men. These unique sports have an ancient heritage and are just as much fun to watch and compete today as they were hundreds of years ago. Our events are:

Weight for Distance
Weight for Height
Sheaf Toss
Caber Toss
Hammer Toss

We have Masters division, A’s-B’s-C’s, Lightweight190’s & Women’s divisions.

What is a Caber Toss? The caber is a 90 to 120 pound log, 16′ to 20′ in length, that is tossed end-over-end. Once the narrow end of the caber is vertically balanced in the arms of the athlete, the athlete runs forward, stops and heaves the caber upward. The caber must spin in such a way that the large end hits the ground. The caber will then fall over with the narrow end falling away from the athlete. A perfect throw will land at the 12 o’clock position, straight away from the athlete that released it.
